Due to the current circumstances, many of us have traded our daily commute for a walk down the stairs and settled into a new normal of working from home.
We virtually sat down with Darren from Compuwave Computers (237 North Street) to hear his top tips for setting up your remote workspace.
Darren’s Top Tips
When setting up your workspace and using a laptop, be sure you attach a monitor, keyboard and mouse. This is for both comfort and convenience, as leaning down to look at a laptop screen all-day is extremely damaging.
If your wireless router is a few rooms away, and you’re looking to speed up your connection, purchase a powerline adapter. It will help improve download speeds and support with better connection for all of the video conferencing you’ll be doing.
Back up! The last thing you need right now is to lose your work so make sure you are backing up work on a regular basis using an external hard drive or a cloud-based platform like Google Drive.
You never know when things might go awry so get yourself a spare laptop charger, it may seem unnecessary but you’ll be glad you have it when the dog confuses your cords for its chew toys.
One of our most popular items is the gel wrist support products for either your keyboard or mouse - when you’re sat at the computer for long periods of time, something as minor as wrist support will ease the strain throughout the day.
Finally, it may sound like common sense but I urge you all to avoid placing liquids/drinks around your workspace - our highest volume of repairs come in from people knocking drinks or soup onto their keyboard or laptop!
It is important to take the time to set up the right space in order to maximise effectiveness and productivity. If you’re easily distracted (like me), I recommend working in a dedicated space away from distraction, allowing yourself to take a break every two hours or so and stretch your legs.
Compuwave is currently still open on North Street with precautionary measures in place, but for any support please give us a call on 0117 9631111 or email: darren@compuwave.co.uk
